The European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance (ESSNA) continues to add to its membership numbers as the trade association signs up Crown Sport Nutrition.

The Spanish based firm joins recent additions Cannaray and Chinese beverage firm Genki Forest as ESSNA continues to push for the highest safety standards and labelling of sports nutrition products.

“We are delighted to welcome Crown Sport Nutrition as new members of ESSNA,” says Adam Carey, Chair of ESSNA.

“As a company driven by science and innovation, Crown Sport Nutrition is an important addition to our membership. We are particularly looking forward to working together on product safety and compliance issues.”

ESSNA’s steadily increasing stable of around fifty sports nutrition companies includes Gelita, Glanbia Nutritionals and Lonza.

The main goals here are to create a safe and healthy environment for the sports nutrition industry, address regulatory challenges related to product labelling, composition and marketing stemming from the EU’s Farm to Fork Strategy and the new EU-UK trade relations.

Science, Quality & Transparency

Crown Sport Nutrition, based in La Rioja, Spain follows the guiding principle of “Science, Quality and Transparency”, where its raw materials and products are formulated with strong scientific evidence and support.

The firm has collaborated with a number of research organisations, such as the University of Greenwich in the UK and the University Francisco de Vitoria in Spain.

Its products are manufactured in The International Food Standard and Good Manufacturing Practice laboratories to ensure the highest safety standards.

“With many of Crown Sport Nutrition’s products certified under the Informed Sport Programme, Crown Sport Nutrition already belongs to the industry’s forerunners in compliance,” adds Carey

“Despite the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, ESSNA’s newest membership addition is also a testament to the industry’s extraordinary resilience, agility, and imagination to bounce back even better than before.

“We look forward to further expanding our membership to aid the incredible growth that our industry has seen, and we hope will continue to see, over the coming years.”

CBD & healthy drinks

UK-based ESSNA recently welcomed CBD firm Cannaray and healthy drinks makers Genki Forest to its stable closely following recent members Nutrition X and Healthspan Elite

At the time Dr Carey commented that having a CBD brand such as Cannaray in the ESSNA membership would “contribute towards more engaging discussions and developing expertise in the fast-growing CBD market.”

“We are looking forward to an enriching cooperation with them in the years to come within the framework of the EU policy and regulatory environment on sports nutrition,” Dr Carey added back in June 2021.

Pol Gieco Villegas, Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Crown Sport Nutrition adds: “I have known ESSNA ever since we have started to build Crown Sport Nutrition six years ago

“I have envisaged to join the Alliance to work together for a stronger and safer sports nutrition industry.

“I am delighted that this vision has now become the reality, and my team and I are proud to be part of the Alliance.

“From our side, we will support ESSNA in the only way we know to work: with science, quality and transparency.”
