OptiBiotix Health subsidiary inks UK probiotics distribution deal
The non-exclusive agreement builds on a relationship with CCL that began in 2018 that distributed OptiBiotix Health’s weight management product SlimBiome to health food retailers Holland and Barrett.
“We believe working with CCL, and similar partners around the world, provides the best opportunity to expand the range of applications for LPLDL and CholBiomex3 to a wide variety of industry sectors,” says Mikkel Hvid-Hansen, commercial director of ProBiotix Health.
“This agreement is another step in our low-cost approach to growing revenues by building manufacturing, formulation/application and distribution partnerships which provide revenues across the whole value chain in multiple industry sectors.”
The York-based firm adds the deal “extends the commercial reach of LPLDL into new application areas where Cambridge Commodities had specific sector expertise, such as food and beverage, sports nutrition, health & wellbeing and beauty.”
Deal extension
The success of the agreement between the two firms was such that an extension to the terms and territories served was agreed in January this year.
Under the new terms the agreement is extended for a further 24 months with another renewal dependent on sales targets.
Further UK-centric deals include an online distribution deal signed with sales and marketing firm BioEnergiser.
The deal will see BioEnergiser promote and distribute SlimBiome Medical via its network of mail order and direct-to-TV resources along with a dedicated home shopping channel. OptiBiotix also have the option of selling the product in its online store.
In June 2018, OptiBiotix Health signed an exclusive deal with John Morley Foods to manufacture and supply SlimBiome in muesli packs within the UK.
Under the deal, the muesli would be sold as own-label products to major retailers and as extensions to existing well-known brands.

SlimBiome is OptiBioitx’s patented formulation of prebiotics and dietary fibres that is said to aid in the maintenance of blood sugar levels, inducing a lower blood glucose rise after meals compared to sugar-containing food and drinks.
It achieves this by stimulating the growth of health positive bacteria in the digestive tract to affect regulation of appetite.
Meanwhile, Cholbiome addresses cardiovascular health by combining Monacolin K from red yeast rice, vitamin B3 (niacin) and the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum (LPLDL) to help maintain healthy levels of cholesterol.
Other products include CardioBiome, shown to reduce total cholesterol by 25% in gut models, ImmunoBiome, designed to improve immune health and reduce allergy symptoms and designed to improve cognitive health and reduce anxiety and stress related conditions.
