Personalised nutrition app raises €8.4m in first round of funding
8fit, a Berlin-based company founded in 2014, is an app, which offers personalised workout and meals plans as in-app purchases.
The app is available on both the iOS and Google Play stores, and has been downloaded by 10 million people over the last three years.
The app was created after 8fit CEO Pablo Villalba went through a health transformation of his own and was inspired to help others.
A former colleague of Villalba, Pedro Solá, joined the app and its mission and is now CTO and leader of the app’s engineering team.
The pair said the funding the company has received will go towards supporting the company’s international user growth.
No one size fits all solution
“There’s no one-size-fits-all way to find lifelong fitness, so we’re focused on building a truly tailored experience that empowers people to get started on their fitness journey and stick with it,” said Villalba.
“With the Series A, we’re bolstering our team to support our rapid international user growth and keeping our eyes on the ultimate goal of helping as many people as possible live healthier, happier lives”.
8fit offers workout plans designed to be doable anywhere, anytime, including yoga and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), as well as recipes for healthy eating.
The app uses individual user’s fitness goals and abilities to tailor the workouts and meal plans to become the best solution for fitness and health compared to a quick fix.
Furthermore, the app can connect with the Apple Watch so consumers can track and record their workouts.
The first round was co-led by Creandum, a European VC investor, and Eight Roads Ventures, a global firm.
Michael Treskow, a partner at Eight Roads Ventures, commented on the company’s excitement over the app.
“Mobile is transforming global fitness and nutrition by bringing healthier lifestyle choices to a wide audience. 8fit has built a unique product to support people’s individual fitness goals via a personalised program, and we look forward to partnering with the team on its journey”.
Staffan Helgesson, General Partner at Creandum, said: “Digital Health is a prioritized area for Creandum, and 8fit is one of the most exciting companies we have come across in this sector”.
