The IPA World Congress + Probiota 2025, hosted by NutraIngredients in association with the International Probiotics Association at the Bella Center, Copenhagen, Feb. 5 to 7, will feature world-leading experts presenting the latest scientific, technical, regulatory, business and market insights.
The three-day conference takes a magnifying glass to all-things microbiome-related, what areas are growing and in which direction.
Gut-Brain Axis
The afternoon of the first day will focus on the microbiota-gut-brain axis, that bi-directional interaction between the gastrointestinal tract and the nervous system.
With numerous opportunities to impact mental health, mood, sleep, stress management, cognitive performance and much more, the gut-brain axis session will feature presentations from leading researchers and companies in this space.
The session opens with a presentation from award-winning neurobiological scientist Dr. Siobhain O’Mahony from University College Cork. Dr. O’Mahony will explore the gaps and opportunities in the microbiome-gut-brain axis field, including considering which specific microbes are best for brain health, how we can manipulate these microbes with targeted interventions and what influences the design of these interventions.
This will be followed by a presentation by Dr. Louis Koeninger, global scientific advisor for gut and mental health at Novonesis, who will explore the science behind Bifidobacterium longum 1714, including data from placebo-controlled clinical studies that support the strain’s benefits to manage acute stress, modulate neural responses during social stress, influence sleep quality, improve social functioning and increase energy/vitality.
Next up is Dr. Julia Rode from the Nutrition-Gut-Brain Interactions Research Centre at Örebro University, Sweden. Dr. Rode will focus on the potential effects of pro- and prebiotics on depression, anxiety, stress and cognition and will highlight the importance of integrating neuroimaging techniques to detect subtle effects of mild and short-term interventions.
We’ll go strain-specific again after this with a presentation by Asuka Tada, commercial manager at Morinaga Milk Industry, on the science behind Bifidobacterium breve MCC1274, a human-residential bifidobacteria (HRB) with memory benefits reported in numerous scientific studies.
We’ll close out the session with an extensive panel discussion when Dr. O’Mahony and Dr. Rode will be joined on stage by Dr. Katherine Elizabeth Guzzetta from ETH Zurich and Dr. Emily Prpa from Yakult UK & Ireland.
IPA World Congress + Probiota 2025
Other key themes that will be covered during the event in Copenhagen include: postbiotics, longevity and healthspan, the pantryome, bioinformatics, next-gen probiotics, microbiome modulation for athletic performance, the state of the market and much more!
The content goes deep and wide: The breadth of our content gives every attendee a higher-level view of the issues, while our experts will also take attendees down rabbit holes for an in-depth understanding of the topics.
According to our post-event survey for Probiota 2024, 95% of attendees rated the summit as Excellent or Good, and 93% said they would recommend it.
Here’s just a sample of the feedback from delegates after our 2024 event in Milan:
“An excellent blend of inspiring talks and panels with ample opportunity to network over a roundtable, posters, and reception evenings.”
“An outstanding event showcasing the latest science and market trends with the perfect amount of networking opportunities.”
“Another year, another fantastic evening! I continue to be impressed with the caliber of presenters and attendees, and leave feeling energized about the future of our industry.”
