Canadian omega-3 producer Algarithm Ingredients Inc. is set to work with Dutch nutritional oils producer De Wit Speciality Oils BV to distribute its sustainable oils across the European region.

The two firms will work to deliver a range of neutral-flavoured, sustainable and transparent algal based omega-3 lipids to European infant formula, supplement and food companies.

Building on the recently announced partnership between Thai Union Ingredients and Algarithm, De Wit will extend the reach of Algarithm’s ingredients throughout the globe.

Specialising in oils rich in omega-3 and omega-6 for applications in the nutraceutical, food, cosmetics and animal nutrition industry, Netherlands-based De Wit has manufactured and distributed ingredients across the European continent and beyond for the last 20 years.

Its subsidiary New Holland Extraction Ltd, in the UK, is a toll extraction facility that specialise in oil extraction from seeds. Key capabilities include their ability to process a wide range of raw materials through several different processes.

Gertjan de Wit, Director of De Wit Speciality Oils, said of the new partnership: “As long-term, reliable and consistent suppliers to the European specialty lipids market, we believe that in working with Algarithm we can improve our offering to our existing customers and new customers. Together Algarithm and De Wit offer the most efficient, secure and safe supply chain, for superior and sustainable omega-3 algae products in Europe.”

As a leading producer of plant-based, ocean-friendly omega-3 ingredients derived from micro-algae, Algarithm has concentrated on creating a portfolio of ingredients which are stable, versatile, and offer an undetectable taste to offer a pleasant sensory experience for consumers.

The ingredients are certified by bodies around the world, including: The Non-GMO Project, The Vegan Society, Health Canada and the European Food Safety Authority.

“Algarithm is very excited to finalize our partnership with De Wit, together we believe that Algarithm and De Wit can provide a dependable and differentiated plant-based ingredient solution to customers throughout Europe,” said Ben Kelly, President of Algarithm. “This new partnership will allow Algarithm to expand our distribution reach, giving Algarithm a presence in a geography it has not targeted since inception.”

Partnerships

Algarithm claims its success to-date can be attributed to a focus on developing strategic partnerships with values-aligned brands that prioritize transparency, traceability and consumer enjoyment.

Earlier this year, Algarithm signed a multi-year manufacturing deal with Seafood giant Thai Union Ingredients (TUI), to include collaboration at TUI’s global omega-3 R&D center. The Strategic Partnerships allowed Algarithm to increase capacity and scale.

TUI invested in a new, state of the art omega-3 oil refining factory in Rostock, Germany, offering the latest technology and allowing the company to produce pure Omega-3 oils.

The partnership not only enabled growth in Algarithm’s categories of supplements, food and beverage, but also enabled the company to compete within infant formula.

In Oct 2022, Algarithm and Natures Crops International collaborated to produce two new omega oil blends for supplement, food and beverage ingredient usage. These new blends, Ahiflower 80DHA and 150DHA, are a vegan option that offer a modern take on a complete omega-3-6-9 solution.

The companies combined regenerative agricultural practices with fish-free DHA to create an all-in-one omega-3 solution that’s both sustainable and traceable back to the farms and estuaries from which it was grown.
