NutraIngredients will present a webinar entitled “Esports: A Multiplayer Opportunity”, on June 29th, bringing experts together to discuss trends and directions of the nutrition for gamers industry.

The webinar will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the esports nutrition landscape, equipping them with the tools necessary to tap into this rapidly expanding market.

By uncovering the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities within the industry, viewers will gain valuable insights into the unique needs of esports athletes.

Kicking it off

Gary Kleinman, co-founder of Skinz, the health and wellness supplement company for gamers, will kick the webinar off with a presentation.

Providing a preview of his presentation, Kleinman tells NI that interest in competitive gaming continues to surge, as does the demand for innovative nutrition products tailored specifically for esports athletes.

Kleinman asserts that gamers, due to their prolonged gaming sessions, often experience muscle fatigue, lack of focus, energy depletion, and reduced concentration.

He highlights the prevalence of chronic mild dehydration in approximately 75% of people, which not only results in fluid loss, but also the depletion of essential electrolytes such as magnesium, sodium, chloride, and potassium.

Skinz has therefore developed the product Electrolyte Boost, to improve the health and wellness of gamers.

Kleinman explains that existing hydration solutions on the market are water-dependant products, however, he implies that these products are less effective due to the body's rapid elimination of fluids and electrolytes after consumption, resulting in delayed and diluted benefits.

He explains that Electrolyte Boost is in powder format, designed to be poured directly into the mouth, allowing for quick absorption by the tongue, bypassing the stomach, and reducing the risk of enzymatic breakdown.

Additionally, Electrolyte Boost is marketed as a sugarless alternative, with 4 calories per serving, in comparison to some other products in the market containing sugar, which typically provides around 30 calories according to Kleinman.

An expert panel

Kleinman will additionally join a panel discussion with industry experts, including: Jason Chung, director and clinical assistant professor of esports and gaming initiative at NYU; Holden MacRae, co-founder and chief science officer of the esports performance app FITGMR; and Jonathan Smed, esport psychologist, and performance coach.

The conversation will explore the evolution of the industry and shed light on the notable trends that are shaping the category today.

The panelists will delve into the key challenges faced by companies operating in this space and provide insights into successful nutrition products that have effectively targeted the esports market.

There will be an examination of the additional health benefits that consumers are increasingly seeking, beyond energy and caffeine, exploring the potential for innovation and introducing new and diverse products.

The experts will discuss strategies for tailoring products to meet the unique needs and preferences of esports athletes, considering factors such as format, ingredients, health benefits, marketing, and packaging.

Speakers will also delve into recent studies on key ingredients and health benefits for e-gamers, regulatory hurdles and compliance issues that esports brands have encountered.
