NutraWomen Wednesday: Muriel Gonzalez, EVP, Chief Merchandising & Marketing Officer, The Vitamin Shoppe

Muriel Gonzalez spent four decades in the fashion and beauty industries, holding senior roles at Macy's, Bergdorf Goodman, Estée Lauder, Saks 5th Avenue and Ann Taylor before landing her current role as Executive Vice President, Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer at the Vitamin Shoppe. She’s responsible for all merchandising, marketing, content and creative, product development and private brands initiatives.

“I've been in beauty a good part of my career, as well as fashion inclusive of women's shoes. What I saw happening is that the whole wellness industry was really having a very big impact on everything from athletic shoes to more comfortable clothing, workout clothes that people wore every day and the beauty industry was beginning to really talk about beauty from the inside out, taking care of yourself, self-care, sleeping well, hydrating, eating correctly and I really was cognizant of it,” recalled Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said she was familiar with The Vitamin Shoppe because her husband was a longtime customer.

“I was familiar with it and I was very intrigued that they were going through a transformation. They no longer wanted to be just a purveyor of some pills and powders, but to really be a health and wellness platform that would really help people on their wellness journey,” said Gonzalez. “I felt that as a merchant and as a marketer that it was just an incredible opportunity to be part of a great transformation story and a great growth story.”
