For many, vitamins are tough pills to swallow–quite literally. Dysphagia affects about 13% of the population, with that number increasing with age. But it’s not always the swallow factor, for some it’s simply about convenience.

Scottsdale, AZ-based Refyned says it is changing how supplements can be taken by harnessing technology that is half a century old.

“A lot of your listeners will be very familiar with Listerine breath strips–same technology, same delivery platform. But again, we started to look at some of the challenges that people face and a lot of people are taking vitamins and minerals supplements, and traveling with gel caps can be difficult, swallowing gelcaps could be difficult and so this really presented a platform where you don't need water to take this product. You can stick it in your briefcase, your purse, you can put it in your shirt pocket, your pants pocket and carry it with you. And so, it's a very portable and easy way to supplement,” said Refyned CEO David Trecek.

Trecek added that Refyned is also looking to partner with healthcare providers, retailers and non-profit organizations throughout the country and believes the market for an alternative to traditional vitamin supplements will be robust.
