The upcycled ingredient producer hopes the deal will help it achieve its aim of promoting healthy living by transforming plant-based coproducts into valuable natural ingredients. It sells a wide range of these ingredients, which are made from wine grape pomace and can be used in various industries, including food, nutrition, animal nutrition, beverage and wine making.
Product development
Alvinesa Chief Executive Officer Jordi Ferre says: “We are excited to welcome the Cades Penedes team into the Alvinesa family.
“The addition of their excellent grape raw materials supports our mission to provide our customers with unsurpassed quality, top-performing plant-based ingredients that are produced in the most sustainable and environmentally friendly way.
“This acquisition further strengthens our ability to support the product development and consumer marketing needs of the global nutrition, food and beverage product sectors.”
Catalonian Cades Penedes manufactures grape-derived sustainable ingredients and is based in Pendes, one of Spain’s best regions for producing wine. It has agreements in place with various wineries in the region.
Alvinesa will be able to increase its production capacity by up to 20% with the use of its manufacturing facility, allowing it to scale production and meet customer requirements accordingly.
The acquisition gives Alvinesa access to organically produced, grape-based raw material that contains more than average amounts of polyphenols – micronutrients with antioxidant activity. These particular characteristics are in great demand from dietary supplement, food and beverage consumer product-makers.
The company has not revealed the financial terms of the acquisition.
Global expansion
Jordi Julia, General Manager of Cades Penedes, adds: “We look forward to joining the Alvinesa team and contributing to the company’s global ingredients expansion.
“We share the same values, commitment and passion for sustainability, the agriculture circular economy and delivering grape-based ingredients of outstanding quality. We’re excited to get started.”
Established in 1993, Alvinesa has grown from its foundations as a family-run business and currently exports to more than 15 countries in five countries globally. Its product portfolio includes natural grape extracts, tartaric acids, grapeseed oil, alcohols and biomass.
