Seppic’s branded coriander seed oil and phytoceramides converge inside an innovative delivery system that enables a dual approach to beauty-from-within.

A new collaboration is underway between Seppic and Lonza’s Capsugel that utilizes Capsugel’s DuoCap. The capsule-in-capsule delivery system combines Sepibliss, Seppic’s branded coriander seed oil with Ceramosides, the company’s branded phytoceramides that are derived from wheat.

While Ceramosides was launched in 2015 and Sepibliss 2018, this is the first time the two ingredients have been encapsulated conjointly.

Brad Humphreys, Lonza’s Associate Director of Business Development, North America, explained that this capsule technology provides a variety of options to combine liquid and powder ingredients into one dosage form. The Duocap capsule-in-capsule Licap technology allows for powder ingredients to be separated in an internal capsule from the liquid component, providing a unique visual and improved shelf life stability. Humphrey added that with a variety of vegan and vegetarian capsule polymers available, various capsule dissolution profiles can also be adjusted, depending on the formula needs.

Formulation

By combining the separation of ingredients in the Lonza Duocap capsule-in-capsule dosage form with stable ingredients, Humphreys said the formula complications were kept to a minimum, allowing for faster commercialization.

“Lonza’s Licaps liquid-filled capsule technology, and in particular their Duocap capsule-in-capsule technology, was the perfect fit to combine Seppic’s innovative ingredients with a unique dosage form. Combining Ceramosides and Sepibliss into one ‘beauty from within’ formula brings together unique ingredients, while Lonza’s Duocap capsule-in-capsule technology brings the formula to life in a visually appealing, technical, finished dose,” said Humphreys.

Sensitive skin

Initially believed to be an unusual reaction impacting only a small subset of individuals, sensitive skin has proven to be more common than expected. Over the past two decades, surveys on sensitive skin conducted in 20 different countries on 5 continents demonstrated that individuals with sensitive skin represent over half the population.

With a growing number of people describing their skin as sensitive, the nutricosmetic’s active ingredient is targeted specifically at reactive and sensitive skin.

Sepibliss is the newest addition to Seppic’s Beauty-from-within portfolio of clinically studied ingredients. It has been studied to soothe sensitive skin and designed to be combined with other ingredients to bring the new “for sensitive skin” claim to ingestible beauty formulas.

According to Seppic, Sepibliss is the first nutraceutical active ingredient with dedicated studies on the different mechanisms involved in skin reactivity phenomenon. Its skin soothing activity has been demonstrated with an in vitro model.

“Ceramosides clinical studies show improvement in skin moisture and elasticity using only a 30mg dose of powder. These clinical studies also show an improvement in skin wrinkles. These benefits on the skin have been measured after only 15 days, a strong and unique result in the ingestible beauty category,” explained Sebastien Merchet, Seppic’s Sales and Marketing Manager Nutrition, North America. “Sepibliss' action has been proven in a gold standard randomized double blind, placebo controlled clinical trial on women with sensitive skin. With a dose of 200mg of oil, improvements have been measured on skin redness and stinging sensation after only 28 days.”
