The webinar looks to build upon a similar session back in May 2020, where current worldwide events bought the aspect of immunity into sharp focus and opened up channels for debate and discussion.
This week’s episode takes place on 20 May at 15:00 CET and for this year NutraIngredients takes its cue from the professionals, who will offer real-life experiences of efforts needed to manage the immune system during elite-level competition.
The session will also look towards the future with thoughts and discussions on the complex relationships between nutrition, sleep, exercise and immunity.
It kicks off with a keynote presentation given by Dr Rob Child, Head of Nutrition at Elite Sport Group in which he draws upon his experience with professional cycling teams and the Great Britain Olympic squad.
Dr Child will discuss nutritional approaches world class athletes have adopted to support immunity in preparation for elite-level competition.
Then ex-professional swimmer Joe Welstead, now CEO/Co-founder of Motion Nutrition will speak from his unique viewpoint both as an ex-athlete and a sports nutrition product developer
He’ll be present to provide insights into the dedication needed to maintain peak immune health as well as his philosophy that now shapes Motion Nutrition products.
Joe will also give us a snapshot of his early years as an elite-level athlete performing in a results-based environment, where not falling ill is crucial in his preparation. Joe is able to ask (and answer), ‘What do athletes want?’
Immunity the priority
“The series has gotten off to a great start with our teams in the EMEA, US and APAC discussing the very issues that matter to our readers,” says Science & Technology Editor Will Chu.
“Immunity has long been on the worldwide agenda for longer than has been anticipated and what better than to gather the foremost experts in this field to offer their insights, expertise and advice to help prepare manufacturers, product developers and others for a very different future.”
“I hope attendees get just as much value and benefit from these webinars as I have hosting them, as I look to find the answers to the very questions industry is asking.”
The day’s events will conclude as Rob and Joe are joined by David Nieman, Director of the Human Performance Laboratory, Appalachian State University, for a panel discussion that will delve into the latest research developments.
With the panel of experts on board, the discussion will look to extract the most relevant insights into how immune health could benefit from taking a nutrition-orientated approach in the long-term.
This week the EMEA team will look into the impact of the microbiome (18 May) on immune health with impending sessions on the influence of botanicals (19 May) and sports nutrition (20 May).
Our sister site CosmeticsDesign has also rallied together leading experts in beauty, science and regulation for its upcoming free-to-attend 90-minute webinar 'Immunity & Beauty' on 25 May to also dig into the opportunities and challenges ahead for this nascent yet growing field.
