Microbiome modulating innovations tap into mental health concerns
The global innovator in functional ingredients and solutions has announced stress and anxiety focused additions to its Biotis brain health range.
FMCG Gurus recently predicted that a key consumer trend for 2021, driven by the stress of the pandemic, will be a heightened interest in products offering cognitive health benefits.
In fact, the market analysts say 42% of global consumers would like to improve their mental wellbeing, 58% are interested in products that can alleviate stress levels, and 63% are interested in products offering a natural energy boost.
One of the markets that has benefited greatly from this trend is the botanicals sector. FMCG says some popular botanicals for improving sleep include: chamomile, dandelion, lavender, jasmine, and ginseng.
But another health phenomenon which has gained heightened interest this year, is the gut-brain axis, with Mintel suggesting this is an fruitful area of innovation moving into 2021.
To help brand owners respond to these challenges, FrieslandCampina Ingredients has developed two new consumer product applications as part of its Biotis Brain Health Benefit Solutions range - the D-Stress sachet and Re-lax health shot.
Both are created using FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ premium galacto-oligosaccharide (GOS), a dairy prebiotic which has been shown through scientific research to stimulate the growth of gut bacteria that could help consumers feel less stressed & anxious.
“The aim of Biotis is to usher in a new era in ingredient science,” says Vicky Davies, global marketing director, Performance, Active and Medical Nutrition, at FrieslandCampina Ingredients. “We’re looking to provide new and innovative solutions to the most current and pressing global health issues. The global COVID-19 pandemic has really put mental wellbeing in the spotlight, elevating it to the same level of importance as other aspects of physical health.”
