With all the supply chain woes of 2020, Hemp synergistics and SDC Nutrition have joined forces to better meet consumer demand. Hemp Synergistic’s Mark Mangieri, the Director of Sales and Product Development and Ron Fazio, the Chief operating Officer, spoke with NutraIngredients-USA to share what this partnership means for the industry.
“Now we can merge the two industries to be one and formulate as normal. It normalizes it,” said Mangieri.
In 2020, Hemp Synergistics developed Bio-Dri. Mangieiri explained the process on a recent NutraCast episode. The company said they developed the phytocannabinoid hemp oil powder concentrate to provide a hemp-based powder that is a highly concentrated, broad-spectrum phytocannabinoid and tasteless ingredient.
“At SDC Nutrition, we create industry leading formulas for big brands that sell their products at retail flagships like GNC, Target, Kroger and Walmart. Supplements containing hemp are in demand as much as collagen, but two problems have prevented clients from mass production: hemp’s ubiquitous bitter taste and the inability to effectively mix hemp oil with other botanical ingredients,” said SDC Nutrition’s Founder and Chairman Sean Marszalek, who added that Bio-Dri is a game changer for the supplement industry.
According to Hemp Synergisitics, Bio-Dri powder will give SDC Nutrition the opportunity to include a hemp oil containing ingredient with at least eight times higher potency than past 'state-of-the-shelf' extraction technology.
Before Bio-Dri, manufacturers could use a ‘nano-emulsified’ powder, which is typically limited to about 9-13% hemp per weight , or other hemp oil options. Each option requires dilution, resulting in 15% or less of hemp oil present, which can impact the availability of minor cannabinoids like CBD and CBN.
Bio-Dr technology utilizes 8% of a capsule volume to achieve a 25 mg hemp dose, providing space for other ingredients, including botanicals that improve bioavailability, such as turmeric.
