According to the organisation, the additions are recognition of the need to ‘influence and shape new rules’ coming from the new European Commission and to tackle challenges coming from Brexit.
“The ESSNA family has been steadily growing in the past months, with more and more companies interested in embracing the benefits of being part of ESSNA, the most trusted voice in the sports nutrition sector,” says Adam Carey, chair of ESSNA.
“We work hard to promote a fair and positive environment for our industry to continue to grow for our industry and Nutrition X’s expertise will represent a great added value for ESSNA. We look forward to a fruitful cooperation with them in the years to come!”
ESSNA, which counts sports nutrition companies such as Gelita, Glanbia Nutritionals and Lonza within its stable of around fifty, are in the midst of stepping up efforts to create a safe and healthy environment for the sports nutrition industry.
ESSNA new manifesto
At the end of last year, the Alliance revealed its updated manifesto, in which it looked to match consumers with products that complemented balanced diets and support active lifestyles.
Coinciding with the new European Commission’s (EC) mandate to promote a healthier and fitter future, the manifesto focused on good health for an ageing population, sport and healthy diets, safe products for consumers, and a fair business environment.
UK-based Nutrition X looks to fit the manifesto’s criteria with its range of products, all batch tested and submitted to Informed-Sport for certification, to ensure they adhere to substances listed on the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) banned substance list.
“We’re honoured to be joining ESSNA as a member and have great respect for what the organisation is doing for the sports nutrition industry as a whole,” says James Markey, managing director of Nutrition X.
“The regulation, research and safety elements of sports nutrition have long-been a passion of ours and something we’re proud to prioritise with every product we create.
“To be welcomed within an organisation which seeks to educate the wider industry on the importance of safety when it comes to sports nutrition is something we absolutely support and actively look to promote in any way we can, so we very much look forward to being involved with the important work that ESSNA does.”
Healthspan Elite
Nutrition X’s membership closely follows that of another UK-based sports nutrition retailer. Healthspan Elite, a mail-order supplier of vitamins, minerals and health supplements, are behind the Elite brand that was launched in 2014 to support the nutritional needs of professional athletes.
Chris Fisher, head of Healthspan Elite, said: “ESSNA is a very credible association in the sports nutrition industry, and one we’re very proud to be a new member of.
“We hope that being part of ESSNA will provide assurance to our customers and partners of our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in everything we do. We look forward to the added industry insight and governance that ESSNA provide”
