Dr Sara De Pelsmaeker, product and business development manager for Rousselot spoke to NutraIngredients during Health Ingredients Europe in Frankfurt last week and revealed that “the problem of inflammation is popping up everywhere".
She pointed out that people growing into their senior years nowadays are digitally-savvy and have armed themselves with a wealth of knowledge to try to stave off the signs of ageing and one big thing they want to avoid, is isolation.
“A big trend in the area of healthy anti-ageing is anti-inflammatories," said Pelsmaeker.
"This is a big thing at the moment as inflammation can lead to all kinds of diseases and mental health issues.
“Our population keeps getting older and we are seeing people are not mobile any more which has a big impact on mental health as people become lonely they become depressed.
“So there’s a clear link between healthy ageing and stopping inflammation.”

Rousselot attended the show in Frankfurt to showcase its range of Peptan Collagen Peptides and its range of applications.
The Peptan ingredient has been created for applications within healthy ageing, joint and bone health, skin beauty and sports nutrition.
The exhibition stand included a range of format ideas including shots, pills, capsules and even cakes.
The Peptan Type 2 ingredient claims to protect cartilage, provide cushioning and lubrication and reduce inflammation thanks to its combination of colleagen, hyalauric acid and proteoglycans..
Pelsmaeker added: “We want to make it so that getting older doesn’t have to mean getting lonely and isolated.”
