Israeli-Italian innovation: Astaxanthin manufacturer and R&D firm partner for novel delivery formats
The partnership will make use of Sphera's proprietary encapsulation technology and Algatech's biotechnological expertise to aid in the development of innovative delivery formats for microalgae-derived ingredients.
The first product under the collaboration, a water-soluble powder form of AstaPure, Algatech's all-natural astaxanthin brand, is slated to launch over the next few months.
The powder, once dissolved in water, will make for a clear, odourless solution with a neutral taste. It is also said to enhance the bioavailability of its ingredients.
Delivery on demand
Algatech CEO Hagai Stadler said, "The nutraceutical market is fast-changing. Companies are looking for new delivery forms and higher value for their products, and Sphera's proprietary technology is able to answer this growing demand.
"Sphera was established by three dedicated scientists, and successfully developed innovative encapsulation technology. That technology will allow for the incorporation of astaxanthin and other microalgae ingredients into new food and beverage categories, and add significant value to existing markets."
