HiE opens arms to European and global nutrition sector

UBM-owned Health ingredients Europe & Natural ingredients (HiE & Ni) kicks off in Frankfurt on November 29. We asked brand director Richard Joyce how the 3-day mega-show is shaping up.

How many exhibitors this year?

“We have over 465 exhibitors that will be showcasing thousands of ingredients, from botanicals, natural ingredients and preservatives, to antioxidants, sports nutrition and vitamin extracts.”

What can show visitors expect?

“We will have a range of features and content such as the New Product Zone and Ingredients in Action, as well as Innovation Tours with a choice of guided or self-guided options. We are also delighted to present Industry Insight Theatre featuring speakers from the leading food-related associations and research companies.

“We’re particularly excited about our Start-Up Innovation Challenge and the Women’s Networking Breakfast, both of which are new features this year. The food portfolio is also celebrating its 30th anniversary of Food Ingredients Global, and we’ll be organising a cocktail party to celebrate with our customers and partners.”

What about Health & Nutrition Week? How does that fit with the main expo and conference?

“Our strategy is to open up Health & Nutrition Week to other event organisers, since our aim is to create a wider community across the health and nutrition industry, and thereby provide an ideal platform for professionals to connect, learn and do business.

“Visitors will have a greater choice of events to attend, thereby giving them more reasons to visit Frankfurt at this time. For example, Nutraingredients and ESSNA are organising a one-day conference on sports nutrition the day before Health Ingredients opens, Stylus will also be running a half day Innovation Forum, GOED organises a Media Luncheon.

“We will also be organising a three-day modular conference, as well as a separate one-day conference on the future of nutrition. Visitors will certainly have a great deal of content to choose from. Overall, we are expecting over 9,000 visitors at Hi Europe, which will be a growth of 25% compared with the last time we were in Frankfurt in 2012.”

What about smaller players – are they represented at HiE?

“This year, as part of Health & Nutrition Week, we’re holding our first Start-up Innovation Challenge, with the aim of giving small companies that don’t usually exhibit at Hi Europe the opportunity to showcase their work. This feature aims to bring these ideas to the market and encourage collaboration between large and small players in the industry.

"We’ve worked closely with two partners to develop this idea: Agroparc and Presans…five finalists will be invited to pitch their ideas in front of a live audience at the Industry Insight Theatre at Hi Europe on 29 November where the winners will be announced. Prize-winners are being offered a strong media visibility by UBM, combined with a ‘starter package’ provided by Agroparc’s key partners.”
