Independent UK cheesemaker Joseph Heler has this week launched a new high-protein cheese.

Rolled out under the dairy’s new Eatlean brand, the company says Protein Cheese has been launched to give shoppers a new high-protein, low-fat cheese option.

The cheese contains 37g of protein per 100g – which is 40% higher than regular full-fat Cheddar (typically 25g/100g), combined with 3g of fat – a 90% reduction versus a regular full-fat Cheddar (typically 34g/100g).

The dairy also produces cheese for retailers’ own label packs and brands such as Weightwatchers and, more recently, sports nutrition company MyProtein.

Eatlean Protein Cheese, which is suitable for vegetarians, will be available as a 350g pack size with an RRP of £4.00 ($5.80), launching initially in Waitrose stores, followed by Morrison’s and Tesco in the coming months.
