Tereos Syral applies for sucrose fibre and intestinal regularity claim
The application was made through Beghin-Meiji - Tereos Syral’s joint venture with Japanese company Meiji Co.
According to the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) register of questions, the article 13.5 claim was under consideration although an exact deadline was not given.
The Tereos sugar group in France made scFOS, prebiotic soluble fibres, from sucrose. It made both scFOS syrup and powder products under the brand name Actilight, which could be used for sugars replacement, fibre enrichment and for its prebiotic properties.
The ingredient was said to contain two calories per gram of fructo-oligosaccharides and when pure had a glycaemic index of zero.
The company did not reply to our request for comment in time for the publication of this article.
