The randomized controlled study, which is as yet unpublished, found that the proprietary supplement improved all of the investigated symptoms – bloating, passage of gas, GI-rumbling, feeling of fullness and abdominal discomfort – significantly over a four week intake phase and was particularly effective to reduce bloating and abdominal discomfort in women.
The blend, which contains Perilla frutescens leaf extract in a specific ratio of selected flavonoids – particularly Vicenin 2 – in combination with rosmarinic acid, was given to 50 healthy participants in twice daily 150mg doses, for four weeks.
The result: 80% of volunteers taking the extract reported substantial improvement of gastrointestinal discomfort, according to Vital Solutions.
“The study results are very promising, taking in consideration the challenging set up of a nutritional human study with healthy volunteers and the area of digestive health, which is known for high placebo effects.” said Dr Sybille Buchwald-Werner, managing director at Vital Solutions.
