Vitafoods Europe snares ‘nutraceuticals’ inventor

The 2012 Vitafoods Europe programme will feature Dr Stephen DeFelice, the man who came up with the term ‘nutraceuticals’ in 1989.

 

Dr DeFelice is the founder and chairman of the Foundation of Innovation for Medicine and he will peer back over the history of the nutraceutical movement, and assess where it is heading in his conference opening keynote address.

The conference agenda runs the full length of the May 22-24 show and features more than 40 speakers from the likes of Coca-Cola, the European Food Information Council, Leatherhead Food Research, Solae Europe, Vital Solutions GmbH, the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) and Stratum Nutrition.

 “The conference has built an international reputation within the nutraceuticals industry, delivering a unique programme that explores market expansion, new innovations and scientific discoveries,” said Vitafoods director, Chris Lee.

“Not only will it provide new insight into product development, but it will also help companies to better market their products globally.”

Content streams include immunity, healthy ageing, gut health, international expansion, clinical trial design, bone and joint health, food allergies, brain health, personalised nutrition and health claims.

A regulatory session will featureGreer Deal, the director of Global Regulatory Services, who will look over the complex array of regulations applicable to botanical extracts, and the impact of the EU’s Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive.

The conference runs in conjunction with supplier seminars. Other features of the show include a new products expo, a trends focus, international halls and discussion forums.
