BASF-Cognis acquisition delivering customer benefits

Integration is fully underway after the merger last year between the two German ingredient giants, Cognis and BASF, with projects developing under the newly formed Human Nutrition unit in the wake of BASF’s €3bn acquisition in December, 2010.

Global nutrition and health communications representative Ulla Spengler told NutraIngredients that the Cognis integration was in full-swing and delivering across-the-board synergies.

“We are gaining the benefit of best practice in both companies,” Spengler said, noting the new unit would keep Cognis marketing concepts like ‘Newtrition’ and that the Cognis network was benefitting from the expanded global reach of BASF.

BASF Human Nutrition will have three focus areas – food, beverages and dietary supplements.

The BASF Vitafoods stand has already included BASF and Cognis brands but the corporate brand name of BASF will apply globally.

Feel good factors

Human Nutrition senior vice president Massimo Armada said: “Our teams are committed to ensuring that all aspects of our service to customers will continue normally while we complete the process. By offering forward-looking concepts and formulations with our newly enlarged portfolio of ingredients, we will deliver solutions to add even more feel-good factors to your products.”

“After the integration, customers will also benefit from complemented and extended value-chains, broadened technology platforms, as well as strengthened market, formulation and application know-how.”

The company featured Tonalin one-shot ampoules, omega-3 (250mg)-vitamin E (12mg) ‘stick packs’ and Vegapure plant sterol mandarine-flavoured sachets at the show.
