Clarification: Red Bull's French status unchanged

Yesterday a story on BeverageDaily.com and NutraIngredients.com implied that a recent European Court of Justice (ECJ) decision meant French authorities had the authority to remove Red Bull from the market if they had valid safety concerns.

This ECJ decision in fact dates back to 2004, and affirms that France, or any other member state could remove the product, or any other product, if it possessed validated safety concerns, but Red Bull has been freely available on the French market since 2008, after authorities determined there were no safety concerns regarding taurine or caffeine content with the product.

While some authorities have expressed concern about the safety of energy drinks, Red Bull remains available in all 27 European Union member states and in more than 150 countries worldwide.

The story was removed from the Decision News Media system minutes after publication to avoid promulgation of the inaccuracy.
