Kemin launches green & black tea extract in Europe

Kemin Health Europe is launching its green-black tea extract called Enlivitea in Europe, an ingredient said to provide synergistic antioxidant benefits that outweigh the benefits of consuming either one in isolation.

The proprietary blend – Enlivitea – contains one green and one black tea variety – chosen after researching 100's of varieties via a trusted supplier and a review of the existing scientific literature. It was launched in the US in September, and further launches are set for Asiaand Latin America.

“Kemin is very excited about its new launch,” said Pedro Vieira, managing director of Kemin Health Europe. “Exclusive sourcing from select tea cultivars, combined with Kemin’s proprietary formulation, make Enlivitea a unique, one-of-a kind tea ingredient.

“Because Enlivitea is a blend of gentle water extracts of high quality teas, the time-tested healthful benefits of brewed teas are not only preserved but also enhanced by this unique formulation,” he added.

The fact it is water extracted rather than solvent extracted has previously been highlighted, especially in countries where the use of solvents could raise regulatory issues.

Talking to our sister site NutraIngredients-USA in September, Michael Ceddia, research and development vice president at Kemin Health, said that clinical trials are in the planning process and will be conducted next year.

“We spent a long time researching this product to get the proper ratio of green tea to black tea,” said Ceddia, noting the complex interaction between the green tea catechins and black tea theaflavins.

“We have found a unique way to blend the teas which delivers a higher antioxidant level than many other extracts,” he added.

Kemin is recommending 1000mg as a daily dose to its clients and which could be delivered in one capsule.
