Denmark-based Bio2com is bringing to the table its knowledge of the health ingredients market, while India-based Sagacious will help out with its know-how in intellectual property.
Immune nutrition
Under the collaboration, one of the first reports planned for publication in 2009/2010 will cover immune nutrition.
Bio2com executive director Karin Nielson told Nutra Ingredients that the report will compare categories of ingredients and analyse how they affect immune health. It will also explore the regulatory status of different ingredients, take a look at different ingredient products and study the patent landscape.
With Sagacious on board, Nielson said Bio2com will be able to provide clients with much more sophisticated patent information. Instead of providing general information about patents, the new market reports will give a more comprehensive overview of nutrition patents.
Neilson said the information will enable companies to see how similar ingredients are treated in the patent world and get a better idea of the overlaps between different products. She said this would help companies better organise and understand their supply options.
Apart from leading to the development of new information products, the partnership between Bio2com and Sagacious will also add new features to Nutrafiles, which is an existing Bio2com product.
Ingredient database
Nutrafiles is a health ingredients database, free from industry sponsorship, which profiles and compares different ingredients. By partnering with Sagacious, Bio2com will improve the intellectual property information in the database.
But Bio2com also has plans to extend the database in other ways with the inclusion of an improved search facility and new flexibility of use with pay as you go and subscriber options.
Neilson said: “Our intention is to put Nutrafiles into a full industry knowledge system, providing information about health ingredients, permitting benchmarking and search tools on a completely new level that has not been seen in the industry before.”
