Quality concerns over chondroitin and glucosamine market

Poor quality material attracted by artificially high prices is flooding the chondroitin market, according to UK-based supplier Gee Lawson.

We are seeing a great deal of poor quality materials in the marketplace as tests have shown a blend of porcine and bovine mixed in with the chondroitin sulphate 90 per cent shark which is then being passed off as pure shark chondroitin,” the company said.

The glucosamine, chitin and chitosan market was also being affected by a poor shrimp harvest due to adverse weather conditions. The company said it had “already experienced the non delivery of product” but noted US demand remained buoyant.
