Verdure buys brands from Geni

Indiana-based Verdure Sciences has acquired Geni Herb's branded
botanical ingredients - including Pomella - an announcement that
follows on the heels of a change of distributor for Geni recently.

In September, Geni announced it was signing over marketing and distribution of ayurvedic botanicals to Stauber Performance Ingredients in an exclusive partnership, allowing the manufacturer to focus on research for its branded ingredients.

Now Verdure will take over research and development of Geni's proprietary brands, and Geni will be the production and manufacturing arm of the operation.

"This acquisition aligns with Geni Herbs' commitment to clinical researched, proprietary botanical extracts," said Verdure director of marketing, Sonya Cropper, in a written announcement. "While Geni Herbs will continue to produce the highest quality commodity botanical ingredients, this acquisition will further propel the research and global marketing efforts first initiated by GH."

No spokesperson from Verdure or Geni was available to answer NutraIngredients-USA.com's questions in time for publication of this article.

Verdure and Geni signed an agreement in April 2006. According to the companies, larger brands in the transaction are marketed primarily in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the United States.

The transaction includes patent-pending branded pomegranate extract Pomella.

"Our mission at Verdure Sciences-the research of proprietary, patentable products-is fully aligned with that of Geni Herbs," said Cropper. "This acquisition greatly augments our resources and abilities across the board."

Verdure also has offices in Heilbronn, Germany, and claims to have a network with over 40 universities, medical centers, and laboratories that support its research capabilities and patent initiatives.
