ATP warns against supplement use

The ATP, the body for professional men tennis players, is warning its members not to take the electrolyte supplement handed out by its trainers in the past.

ATP chief executive Mark Miles said players had to destroy the supplements so that those that test positive for the hormone nandrolone in the future will no longer be able to blame the tour for giving out contaminated supplements.

British player Greg Rusedski was cleared by a tribunal on Wednesday after a positive nandrolone test. Several other tennis players tested positive for the banned substance last year, leading the ATP to investigate the possibility that the cases were caused by supplement use.

Last week the assocation said it was stepping up its efforts to identify what had caused the positive test results as low level trace occurrences are still occurring.
