Solbar soy product to boost bone strength

A recent study from Solbar Plant Extracts suggests the benefit of
soy supplements on the bone strength postmenopausal women.

Israeli soy company Solbar Plant Extracts has recently completed a study incorporating using it's soy product SOLGEN.

The first study looked at the effect of Solgen 40 on the bone strength of postmenopausal women using a quantitative tibial ultrasound. The diets of nineteen healthy postmenopausal women were supplemented with multi-ingredient food supplement containing natural soy isoflavones, vitamins and minerals related to bone health.

Bone strength measurements were performed with ultrasound bone sonometer. Speed of Sound (SOS) along with tibial provides an index of bone strength, with stronger bones having higher velocities. The device reports measured SOS along with T-score (reference to young healthy adults) and Z-score (reference to aged-matched). SOS measurements were performed before and after 26 weeks supplementation period.

The study results showed that after 26 weeks of supplementation the measurements were 3823.3±64.9 m/sec, -1.2±0.6 SD-units and -0.8±0.5 SD-units respectively. Drawing conclusions from the results Solbar suggests that 26 weeks supplementation with SPE soy isoflavones, along with multivitamin and minerals, did significantly increase the bone strength measured as tibial SOS of healthy postmenopausal women.
