Herbal extract manufacturer Euromed has received Kosher certification from a US certification agency.
The company received approval from KOA (Kosher Overseers of America) on 1 February and is one of the first European extract suppliers to complete the certification process.
"While our manufacturing facilities are ISO 9001 and GMP certified, this additional certification meets the growing needs of our clients for Kosher certified ingredients," said Joe Veilleux, general manager for Euromed's US operations.
Kosher certification from third parties adds credibility to products in North America, where there is little government regulation to ensure ingredient quality. On-site supervision of the certification process took place at Euromed's manufacturing facility in Barcelona, Spain.
"We are pleased to report that Euromed's extracts do not contain animal products and they are suitable for vegetarians, for those who are lactose intolerant and for those of the Jewish faith," said Rabbi Issacson of the KOA.
The Kosher extract product line includes saw palmetto, pygeum, nettle, echinacea, St. John' Wort and 24 other products.
Euromed is a wholly owned subsidiary of German botanical medicine company Madaus with annual revenues of approximately $400 million.
