Norwegian fatty acid manufacturer Pronova Biocare has launched a supplement targeted specifically at women under its consumer brand Triomega.

Triomega Woman contains highly concentrated omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, vitamin D to improve absorption of calcium in the gut, and the antioxidant vitamin E, according to the company.

Targeted at women aged 30-50 years old, Pronova recommends consumers take three of the mint-tasting capsules, giving 580mg of omega-3, 650mg calcium, 5ug of vitamin D and 30mg of vitamin E.

The main omega-3 used in Triomega Woman is the marine oil 'EPAX 4510TG', said to have a high EPA content. EPA is believed to have positiveeffects on symptoms such as migraine, menstrual pain, and depression.

The product, which is packaged in a metallic bottle with purple cap, is being distributed in Norway, Sweden and Finland, to grocery stores and other retail outlets. Recommended retail price is €13-€15.

Pronova launched its standard Triomega product (containing omega-3 fatty acids alone) in 1999, followed by Triomega Kids (chewable capsules for children 5-12) in 2002. The products are sold in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

Communications officer Randi Knudsen said: "We are looking into other markets for our Triomega products, and hopefully they will be available in one or two other markets in Europe during 2003."
