Busy convention for NuSkin

US Supplement and natural skincare company Nu Skin Enterprises launched several new products and a humanitarian initiative at its distributor convention last week.

US Supplement and natural skincare company Nu Skin Enterprises launched several new skincare products at its distributor convention held in Salt Lake City last week.

Nu Skin Clear Action Acne Treatment System is a four-product system targeting the global acne treatment market. The company claims the products treat the unwanted signs from past acne, manages current problems and helps save skin from the long-term damage often caused by acne.

The new Epoch Baby line is the company's first step into the prestige baby care market and includes Hibiscus Hair and Body Wash, Babassu Liquid Powder and Ylang Ylang Massage Gel.

Nu Skin also introduced Perennial, a moisturiser containing IBR-Dormin, a natural compound derived from Narcissus bulbs that has been shown to enhance cellular durability, and boost the skin's natural defense mechanisms against the environment, said the company.

Pharmanex, the company's nutrition division, introduced Cortitrol Stress Control Formula, a supplement that helps to maintain healthy levels of cortisol, a hormone the body releases when under stress. The hormone can lead to weight gain, poor cardiovascular health and persistent fatigue if levels become too high. The unit also introduced ReishiMax GLP, a proprietary, potent reishi extract, which had previously been launched in Taiwan and Hong Kong. It has been demonstrated to support healthy immune system function and stimulate immune cell proliferation, said NuSkin.

The Pharmanex BioPhotonic Scanner, a new tool that monitors the level of certain antioxidants found within body tissue, will be leased to distributors in the US in the first quarter of 2003 and is expected to have a positive impact on the sale of LifePak, Pharmanex's core vitamin and mineral supplement, said the company.

Finally the Big Planet division announced a new focus on areas designed to complement Nu Skin and Pharmanex activities, such as helping distributors from any division with technology and IT services.

Nu Skin Enterprises has also launched a humanitarian effort to contribute nutritious, dehydrated meals to relief organisations such as the United Nations World Food Programme and US-based Feed the Children, for starving and malnourished children throughout the world.

Steven Lund, president and chief executive officer said: "We were pleased to have a 20 per cent increase in attendance at this convention which we attribute to enthusiasm for new business initiatives as well as the addition of new markets in Southeast Asia opened since the last convention.

"We are experiencing growth around the world, accompanied with increasing distributor counts and improving profitability. With our new product launches, our expansion into China and our commitment to become a stronger force for good in the world, we believe we have laid the groundwork for continued growth in our business."

He added: "We remain comfortable with current third quarter analyst estimates of double-digit revenue growth and earnings per share in the $0.18-$0.19 range. We expect to achieve our targets for 2002 and believe that 2003 will be another year of solid growth for our company." The company plans to release third quarter results and to discuss its outlook guidance for 2003 on Monday 28 October 2002.
