Scientists in South Korea have developed a rose petal ice cream which they claim could help prevent ageing.

Scientists in South Korea claim to have developed a rose petal ice cream which could even help prevent ageing, reports Ananova.com.

The National Rural Living Science Institute team used crushed flowers to flavour and scent the ice cream.

Researcher Han Gui-jung claims that apart from dispensing with the need for artificial colourings, the rose petals could have additional health benefits.

He said:"Roses have acid-fast materials that help prevent cells from ageing. So, this ice cream could be very popular among women."The South Korean daily newspaper JoonAng Ilbo reported that the team has applied for a patent following initial taste tests.

The 'natural rose ice cream' uses petals from marble roses. The researchers say several manufacturers have already expressed an interest in their product.
