Cognis Health & Nutrition, the leading dietary supplement manufacturer and marketer, today launched a new grade of high-potency natural-source vitamin E powder, at the Vitafoods conference in Geneva.
Covitol 1185 HPMC is a vitamin E succinate coated with HyproxyPropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC). The production technology is covered by a US patent.
Vitamin E succinate is an ester form of d-alpha tocopherol (natural vitamin E). Cognis claims that the product shows oxidative stability and is solid at room temperature, allowing its use in direct compression tablets and hard gelatin capsules.
The HPMC coating on the surface of the particles is responsible for the improved flow of the product, claimed to have better performance than other succinate products in a tableting machine or capsule filler.
The company also said that the coating material is approved under food law in Europe which means the product can be used in dietary supplements, functional foods and pharmaceutical products.
It is extracted from natural bean and seed oils and is available in different forms, depending on requirements.
Cognis began developing natural vitamin E products 35 years ago. Cognis Health & Nutrition was established in August 1999 as a carve-out from Henkel, and was then acquired by a consortium of investors in 2001.
